First Free Wichita

Jo's bio

What I do here at First Free: Spending time with women! Is there anything better than that? I really do consider Director of Women's Ministry my dream job! We've attended First Free since 1979, and I joined our staff in 2004. God has given me a heart for women to support and encourage one another and to help them desire a connection with the Lord that is passionate, intimate, alive, and growing. The command to be a disciple of Christ has been reinforced in my life recently. I'm thinking that being a disciple and making disciples is in fact a pretty great commission!

My family is the best! Terry and I have been married for 33 years. Terry works as a senior internal auditor at Wichita State University. We have four kids: James, Tim, Andrew and Alex. What a thrill to have added Alex to our family as a daughter with her marriage to Andrew this past year!

Then and Now: Before I started working at church, I was a full-time homemaker and loved every minute of it -- well, most minutes! Bible Study Fellowship was a big part of my life for lots of my stay-at-home years. In my free time now, I enjoy reading, walking, biking, watching football in the fall, and drinking coffee with friends -- no matter what season it is. God's Word "grabbed" me as I initially came to Christ working at a Colorado guest ranch during college. His Word remains a sure foundation for my life.

Something you might now know and if you don't care to, you can stop reading now: I lived in Manhattan, KS, 2 different times. The first time I received a music education degree and met Terry during our senior year at a KSU basketball game. The second time Terry earned a second degree in accounting while I was employed at the home office of Farm Bureau Insurance. During those 2 years I worked as policy typist, librarian, cafeteria cashier, switchboard operator, plant sitter, fill-in publications person, and tour guide. I went from the routine of typing policies every day to working in HR where every day was different! It was there I earned the PHT degree: Putting Husband Through!

And finally: I'm addicted to exclamation points! Can you tell?!!!!!!!!
