Here's an important update on classes from our weekly email:
We are coming to your inbox a day early this week to share some important news. We’ve decided to put a pause on our Sunday morning classes through the end of the year beginning this coming Sunday, November 15. This is essentially a return to our summer programming.
This is not a decision we’ve made lightly and we grieve the loss of connection this will bring, especially for those with young children. After watching COVID case and hospitalization numbers in our community over the last couple weeks we are seeing notable increases that will continue to put significant strain on the Wichita healthcare system if transmission isn’t slowed. We’ve also seen an increase in the number of positive cases and exposure-related quarantines for our staff and people in the congregation. Additionally, the County put a new public health order into effect yesterday which outlines the need to maintain social distance between people in separate households, which simply isn’t feasible with our class sizes. There are exemptions for churches to some parts of the order, however, we have been taking the County’s requests seriously in our planning throughout the past eight months and feel like this is a step we need to take out of concern for our community. We also know the holidays are right around the corner and anticipate that will increase the risk of exposure following the many family gatherings that will happen.
We are thankful to be able to continue with our Sunday morning worship services (in-person and online) and want to remind you of the importance of maintaining six feet between households and wearing a mask while in the building if you attend. Where these mitigations are possible, we encourage on-going ministry!
Lastly, we want to reiterate that we welcome and value having your children in our services and will continue to provide coloring pages and notes pages for kids. We will be in touch with families as we think through ways to come alongside you in helping you disciple your children in the coming weeks.
Please join us in praying for the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of the many people in our church and our community.
