- What is your favorite Christmas carol? What do you like about it?
- Read Luke 1:39-45. What surprises are in this passage (what would you expect)?
- Who in your life seems to be demonstrating a belief in God’s promises? How can you encourage them?
- Read Luke 1:46-56. Do you tend to focus more on God’s transcendence (might) or his immanence (mercy)? Or, do you hold them together well?
- Compare Hannah’s song (1 Samuel 2:1-10) with Mary’s song (Luke 1:46-56). What similar paradoxes do you find?
- How does the reality of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ, who became lowly, inform Mary’s song?
- Is there any idol you’re worshipping that you need to repent of? Share and pray for one another.
