Cornerstone

March 1, 2015 Preacher: Josh Black Series: Mark: Who Do You Say That I Am?

Passage: Mark 11:27–12:44

Sermon Questions
- John Stott says, “There has been a revolt against authority in the Western world that has been gaining momentum for some time.” Do you agree? What factors have led to this revolt against authority?
- Read Mark 11:27-33. Is Jesus simply dodging the Sanhedrin’s question? How might the baptism of John establish Jesus’ authority?
- Read Mark 12:1-12. What does it mean that Jesus is the cornerstone? How does this further establish Jesus’ authority?
- Pastor Josh said the authority of Jesus and the authority of the Bible are linked. How are they linked? Wayne Grudem says, “When we obey the Scriptures, we obey Christ?” Do you agree with him. If so, how does that challenge you to obey Christ this week?
- Read Mark 12:41-44. Pastor Josh said the right response to the authority of Jesus is to give him everything. What does that mean in real life for you?
- Children test the boundaries of their parents’ authority? What boundaries of Jesus’ authority (and the authority of the Bible) are you testing now? How could the gospel motivate you to give Christ your full allegiance?
