We Are Not Our Own

May 10, 2015 Preacher: Josh Black Series: Joshua: Bound for the Promised Land

Passage: Joshua 5:2–5:15

Sermon Questions
- Right or wrong, there is a lot of focus on healthy eating and physical fitness health these days. Do we focus enough on spiritual fitness in the church? Why or why not?

- Read Joshua 5:1-9. In the Old Testament, life in the land is dependent on loyalty to God’s law. At First Free we believe in the centrality of the gospel of grace. How does the call to obedience relate to the grace of the gospel?

- Read Joshua 5:10-12. Observing the Passover was a way to remember the past redemption out of Egypt and anticipate the future inheritance of the land. The Lord’s Supper does the same for us. It recalls the cross of Christ and anticipates his return. How does the Lord’s Supper prepare you for battle?

- Read Joshua 5:13-15. The call to remember our relationship with the Lord and our redemption in the Lord is all to remind us that we need to rely completely on the Lord. Joshua is a model of surrender to Christ. How does his model challenge and encourage you to rely on Christ?

- Our battle is not against flesh and blood. We’re called to wield the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. We’re called to take the gospel to the nations. Remembering our relationship with Christ, our redemption in Christ, and our reliance on Christ should prepare us for this mission. Where do you need to get in better spiritual shape for this mission? Who can you share the gospel with this week?
