- Authority is one of those words that can carry bad feelings with it from either experiencing or seeing it being misused or abused. But it’s actually a needed structure in many areas, share some examples of when someone having authority is necessary for things to go well.
- How would you explain the difference between authority (or distinction of roles) and equality.
- How does seeing the authority alongside equality in the Trinity affect the way you understand the principle of male headship?
- Paul leans on creation and nature in his explanation of why women in Corinth should wear head coverings in church. How should these same reasons shape our practice today?
- What is your view on women in ministry and what roles they can have? In a church our size there are certainly differences of opinion. How does this passage affirm or challenge your beliefs?
- What are some ways the church can hold tight to the authority roles outlined in scripture and at the same time not give outsiders more “fuel for the fire” so to speak in the heated gender discussions going on in our culture today?
